Matthäus Merian the Elder (Swiss, 1593–1650) After Antonio Tempesta (1555–1630)

Emperor Galba on Horseback, Plate VII from 'The First Twelve Roman Caesars'

Etching and Engraving, circa 1610 - 1650.

Titled 'SERGIVUS GALBA AVG', and numbered VII in the bottom left of the plate.

Within a gilt and watercolour line washed mount and gilt frame.

Image size 30cm x 22.5cm. Including frame 43cm x 35cm

Condition: Nice, crisp image, various areas of foxing and discolouration to the paper, one very small tear to the bottom left. Not inspected out of the frame, it appears to be cut to the plate margin at the bottom but unsure as to whether this applies on all edges.
