Elmgarden has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
With the lid closed, it can be used as a reading stand or lectern, inside there are 2 small compartments for pens or candles.

The top section has a small gallery and it is beautifully carved all the way around, the slope is fixed with large butterfly hinges and it stands on bbobbin turned legs
The desk is in good condition for its age but one of the lids for the candle box is loose instead of being fixed

This is a very attractive piece and lends itself as a greeting station or similar as it looks lovely from all sides
A good Gothic piece with an excellent patina, Desk is 37” high, 25” wide and 20” deep
