Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The typical high quality "London" case features brass inlay to the canted corners that flank the hood door, with similar brass-inlaid canted corners either side of the long trunk door with its arched moulded top.

The 8-day movement strikes hours on a bell with its heavy brass-bob and iron-rod pendulum and brass-case weights. The painted dial, signed by the maker, features subsidiary seconds and date dials and original elegant blued steel "spade" hands.
This delightful and compact long case measures just 6ft 10ins (208 cms) tall. **William Budgen worked in Croydon 1750-1824
