18th Century Bronze Sculpture of Buddha & Muchalinda

Description

A superb 18th Century Thai bronze of Buddha seated on the curled tail of the serpent king, Muchalinda. This sculpture shows Buddha taking shelter in a storm, protected by the serpent king Muchalinda, whose 7 heads rise up to form a protective canopy over Buddha. The sculpture is well modelled and and beautifully patinated, it stands well and the quality is very good. There is evidence of some historic repair to the back of the base. This is not detrimental to the beauty and appeal of the piece. A superb antique bronze with huge decorative and cultural appeal.
