Antique Waltham Royal Pocket Watch & Later Chain

An antique Waltham Royal open faced pocket watch with later chain.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is ticking away nicely. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 2877445 dates it back to 1885. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is engraved with the original retailer’s name of Henry W Bedford of 67 Regent Street, London.

The watch measures 41mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop (so smaller than the standard 50mm diameter pocket watch). The case is hallmarked inside both of the back covers for Birmingham 1886, with a maker’s mark for Alfred Bedford, Manager of Waltham UK from 1869 to 1912. The case has some minor surface marks but nothing serious at all. There is some rubbing to the engine turned detail to the back of the case, just from use over the years.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The white enamel dial has a couple of faint hairline cracks on number 9 but not too obvious to the naked eye. The hands are initially lever set which is very simple and we will include instructions with the watch.

The watch comes on a single silver chain which measures 31cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. The chain is hallmarked on each link with the lion passant silver mark. Also included is a sterling silver fob with a presentation engraving dated 1960. Total weight of the chain and the fob is 22g.

The watch and chain will be sent in a new presentation box.
