A William IV Mahogany Maitre D Stand

Description

This highly individual piece is a conundrum, its most likely purpose is as a Maitre D stand, although there are several other possibilities. The top opens to reveal a leather writhing surface, either side of this are small drawers, the right drawer containing a pen tray and area for an ink well. The four compartments below this are held together by a mechanism which means that as the top compartment is opened the other 3 open simultaneously. The piece is made from dense, well figured mahogany and is in very good condition it is also in the manner of Morgan & Sanders. 1225mm high, 690mm wide and 490mm deep. Circa 1835.
