Description

I love the graphics in this 19th century Timuri prayer-rug, the simplicity in the drawing of the tree rising up from the underworld, through the earthly world to the realms of the spirit. Dating from the 1860s, the rug is in remarkably good condition with the remains of the beautiful brocaded skirts and bar the usual brown-dye corrosion in places. The hand-panels are difficult to photograph precisely but it is worth noting that the trees in each of the panels are coloured in turquoise - not blue!
