Grand Sonnerie 3-Wt Vienna Regulator

Description

Ernest OEHME, VIENNA: a most elegant and fine quality Grand Sonnerie VIENNA REGULATOR in perfect working order.

The slender case is veneered in pale figured rosewood with boxwood edging and features a carved pediment; glazed sides and glazed front door. The 8-day triple-weight movement strikes hours and quarters on two gongs every quarter, with its original steel-rod pendulum and enamel dial signed by the maker. Fine and original blued steel hands. 43 x 12 x 6ins (109 x 30.5 x 15cms)

*** We can find no Ernest Oehme, clockmaker, though interestingly there is a famous German romantic painter (1797-1855) who goes by the same name and whose dates concur.
