Description

WILLIAM SHAYER: an interesting and well composed OIL PAINTING on board which depicts a French provincial fisher girl; dog to her side, who is accompanied by a child sitting on a grey pony.

Various boats can be seen in the distance against the hilly background. Signed and dated, lower left. 16.5 x 14.5ins (42 x 36.5cms) including the original frame. Christies stencil number to the reverse.

*** Although the inscribed detail to the slip frame refers to this painting being dated "1788", the signature clearly accredits this as being by Wm Shayer and dated 1851.
