Stevens & Williams Silver Mounted Claret Jug By John Orchard - 1888

A superb Stevens & Williams cased glass claret jug by John Orchard, the unusual colour combination of Smokey quartz over turquoise cut with acanthus style decoration, a decorative border around the top and bottom and an applied clear cut glass handle.
This fabulous claret jug has a beautifully cut base and an English hallmarked silver mount with hinged lid dated 1888 assayed in Sheffield made by Frederick Crockford & Charles Hickson of Mappin Brothers, two minor chips in the glass (see photo’s) otherwise the condition is excellent. This claret jug is one of the finest of its sort standing 10 ½ inches tall.
