French Green Tortoisehell Boulle Clock C.1880

19th century
Description

A fine quality late 19th century green tortoiseshell and engraved brass inlaid mantel clock in the Louis XV style, retailed by Klaftenberger of London and made by J B Delettrez Paris..

The beautiful small sized case of waisted form, inlaid to all four sides and with the finely cast original gilt bronze mounts.

The fully restored eight day movement by J B Delettrez, rack striking the hour and half hour on a bell with Brocot suspension.

The decorative gilt dial with enamel cartouche roman numerals.

Movement and case numbered.

Height: 11 3/4"

Width: 6 1/2"

Depth: 4"

Manufacture: French

Date: Circa 1880

Charles Klaftenberger was trading from 1863 to 1881. Aubert & Klaftenberger traded in London from 1839 to 1857 and are recorded again in 1881. Alone or in partnership these two retailed some of the very finest French clocks.

The initials JBD on the movement are a monogram of Jean Baptiste Delettrez who is recorded as living in Paris circa 1845 until circa 1885.

Overall this is an impressive clock of small proportions decorated to all sides.

The case is in fine original condition with the tortoiseshell and boulle work in perfect order.

The clock has been sympathetically cleaned and the movement fully restored to a high standard by our FBHI restorer with 12 months guarantee.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
