A Marine Chronometer by Parkinson & Frodsham London, Circa 1870

Description

A very fine quality two day marine chronometer by Parkinson and Frodsham, Change Alley, London, numbered 3861 dating circa 1870.

The beautifully patinated and figured original 3 tier cuban mahogany box with brass carrying handles to the sides, original lock and original hinges.

The inner top lid with the original Parkinson & Frodsham trade label describing their illustrious business and awards.

The original plaques to the front of the case signed for Parkinson & Frodsham and the number of the chronometer 3861.

The silvered and engraved brass dial signed to the centre and numbered with engraved medal awards and prizes for trials.

Additional subsidiary dials for state of wind/power reserve and seconds zone.

The fully serviced 56 hour movement of the finest quality engraved for Parkinson & Frodsham Change Alley, contained within a further brass cased dust cover typical of Parkinson & Frodsham chronometers.

The single fusee spotted plate decorated movment with spring detent escapement, free sprung blued helical hairspring, bimetallic balance with weights and timing screws, diamond endstone, maintaining power.

All contained within the original brass bowl and gimbals.

Original tipsy winding key.

A very fine and original chronometer fully serviced to the highest standard.
