This exquisite box is indeed a safe; looking at the front of the box, you have to imagine that the top 5" is the actual jewellery box and bottom 4 1/2" is a solid weight, making this extraordinarily heavy hence not being able to just quickly be picked up and stolen.
The quality is exceptional with exquisite filigree work and a very British Lion's head to the back and front; swing handles to either side (do not lift this with the handles - it is too heavy); the top is fitted with figural mounts to each corner featuring a lady's head.
The interior of the box has been professionally re-lined in black velvet creating a clean and very usable finish with a soft finish.
This is a rare find, something I have never come across before. The condition is quite wonderful with a superb polished antique patina with gold highlights to high points.
