A George III Irish Blunderbuss.
The brass barrel with a ringed bell shaped end, tapering to the mid section and thence the stepped octagonal rear. The barrel within a good figured walnut stock, enclosing the steel flintlock action. The trigger guard with a broad lower band, finished with an engraved pineapple finial. The butt of the stock with a brass covering plate. The mechanism engraved for ''EDWARDS'', the barrel for ''DUBLIN''. The stock plate and barrel engraved DV-5928, the stock branded ''M E''.
William Edwards was active 1776 - 1798, at 5 Palace Street, Dublin. ''M E'' is for County Meath, this blunderbuss was for the County Meath mail coach.
Date c 1785.
Length 30 inches.
