This delightful GEORGIAN SAMPLER was worked by ELIZA ANN SMITH AGED 8 YEARS in 1829.
It is embroidered with the alphabet, numbers, a house with stylised trees and a religious verse:
Gentle Jesus, lovely lamb,
Thine and thin alone I am,
Take my body spirit soul,
Only thou possess the whole
Thou my one thing needful be
Let me ever cleave to thee
Let me chuse the better part
Let me give Thee all my heart.
The SAMPLER is framed and behind glass. There are some normal signs of wear in the canvas.
