Large Carved Black Forest Figural Inkwell - Dog C.1890

Description

A magnificent top-quality example of a Black Forest carving of a Terrier, beautifully executed with tremendous detail and two glass bead eyes.

This canine beauty stands on a carved naturalistic base, The head is hinged and retains the original brass hinge; once opened, the removable ceramic ink chamber is revealed.

The mouth of the dog is made to slide in and out a small dip pen, this carved bone pen which fits perfectly is included.

An exquisite piece in excellent condition, dating to around 1880. An impressive size measuring 9" x 5 1/4" x 8" tall.
