Antique English Tortoiseshell and Mother of Pearl Card Case C.1850

Description

A handsome Victorian card case made from a wonderful piece of period shell with markings from golden Champagne to deep rich chocolate brown, and everything in between.

The front of the case has a diamond shaped lozenge made from Mother of Pearl of Nacre shell intricately engraved with a belt and buckle emblem, very Victorian and highly decorative.

The push button to release the lid and the hinge are in fine working order and the top retains it;s original silver mount which would have been for an engraved monogram. The interior of the lid and base are lined with Ivory and both front and back panels are inlaid with silver stringing.

Excellent condition dating to around 1850. 4" x 3".
