Antique Novelty Oak & Silver Plated Preserve Jar - Musical Drum C.1890

Description

A wonderful and rare piece of Victorian novelty serving ware in top notch condition, unmarked but undoubtedly by John Grinsell.

Panels of solid English Oak were used to form this cylindrical body and mounted with silver plated fittings to create a drum.

The inside is lucky enough to retain the original creamware ceramic liner, in really great condition.

The top of the lid is crowned by a wonderful gold plated or gilded finial in the form of a pair of crossed drumsticks leaning against a music score engraved. The folding handle incorporates a belt and buckle detailing, a very Victorian motif.

Excellent condition, the diameter measures 5 1/4" x 4 1/2" x 5 1/4" tall or 7 1/4" tall to top of handle whilst upright.
