Description

This antique Swedish pedestal desk has a lot of Neo-Classical influence & is of high quality. It's a very functional piece too, with three drawers on the top section, two cupboards either side, one with pull out tray shelves & one with a single shelf. The top section has the original tooled leather writing surface flanked by kingwood panels. These kingwood panels are also all over the front, sides & back. All the panels have various geometric designs & are bordered with satinwood inlays. The drawer fronts have different designs & more exotic woods set in. The desk top has a chamfered edge & the legs are tapered with brass capped feet. There are also gilt bronze mounts & escutcheons. I would date this desk to around the 1890-1910 period & it's in excellent original condition. It also comes apart into three sections for easy transportation.
