Antique Georgian Oak Mule Chest

18th century
Description

Lovely large 19th Century oak storage chest with two drawers, set of raised bracket feet. It has panelled sides and a planked top. The lid is hinged and folds back in the middle to give access to the top part of the chest. Originally it would have hinged at the back and lifted up fully but it was modified a very long time ago and works well as it is now without looking out of place.

It is in good condition throughout and is strong and sturdy with a beautiful rich patina. The back is clean and the hinges are strong. The drawers run smoothly and have good quality brass drop handles. There are some old woodworm holes here and there which have been treated as a precaution but they haven't affected the chest structurally or aesthetically. It has been well looked after and maintained and is ready for use.

The best description comes from the pictures so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions please ask.

Please get in touch for an accurate national or international delivery quote. We cover much of the country ourselves and organise fortnightly deliveries to London as well as further afield by courier.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
