Brass Bound Military Campaign Chest of Drawers C.1880.

Description

Fine example of the classic 19th.c. campaign chest of drawers c.1880. Designed to travel with an officer on long military campaigns it is constructed in two sections which fit together to make a chest of two short and three long drawers. Solid teak top, sides and drawer fronts, further strengthened with brass bindings and corners to protect it from the rigours of travel. Note also how the handles are designed to fold flush with the drawer fronts again to stop them from being broken in transit. The turned legs are probably later replacements (the originals, being removable, are frequently missing) though they are a good match for style having a brass collar to the foot. Excellent colour and condition, restored, cleaned and polished in our workshops. Original brass bindings, handles and locks.
