High Back Pine Box Settle C.1880.

19th century
Description

Late 19th.c. pine high back box settle or hall seat c.1880. Tongue and groove backboards with a shaped top moulding over shaped arms with turned supports and a hinged seat with plenty of useful storage below for shoes etc. Note how the rear stiles are shaped for comfort and stability and how the front ones are turned at the foot. Plenty of old wear but otherwise in very good condition, solid and sturdy. The rear retains the original finish.
