A Gents 1950s Omega Seamaster Wrist Watch

A gents 1950s Omega Seamaster wrist watch.

The watch has a hand-winding movement, calibre 420, which is working nicely. The movement is signed just as it should be and the serial number 15,711,658 dates it back to around 1957.

The watch itself measures 33.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold capped which means a generous layer of 14k gold has been applied to the front and sides of the case and the bezel is solid 14k gold. It was said that the gold capping was so thick that it could hold its shape when not fitted to the case and apparently the salesman used to carry a sample of just the gold capping to demonstrate how strong it was. The case is in good condition for a 1950s piece.

The stainless steel case back has the Omega triangular stamp inside, 2759-5 SC 2761 which is correct for the calibre 420. The outside of the case is stamped Seamaster, Waterproof (although as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water).

The winding crown is a later replacement.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial has some marking and freckling. Dauphine shaped hands, centre seconds hand and minute markers.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
