Post Impressionist Landscape - Oil Painting

1920 - 1940
Description

Attractive post impressionist landscape by Georges Bilhaut (1882 - 1963) Abbeville. The oil on canvas is in excellent condition and is mounted in a quality wooden frame of the period. It dates from around 1930.

Bilhaut was a pupil of Fernand Cormon at the Ecole Nationale Superiere of Fine Arts, Paris. He was a professor of drawing and began his career in Longwy and then returned to Abbeville to teach. He exhibited in 1922 - mainly paintings of the Haute-Savoi, Perigord, Brittany and Normandy. After the second world war he became a professor at the College Courbet and director of the School of Fine Arts. He was also an associate of the National Society of Fine Arts and the Society of Independent Artists. He is buried in Abbeville.
