Rue des Fontenelles has dated this piece to the 1930s.
Bilhaut was a pupil of Fernand Cormon at the Ecole Nationale Superiere of Fine Arts, Paris.
He exhibited in 1922 - mainly paintings of the Haute-Savoi, Perigord, Brittany and Normandy. After the second world war he became a professor at the College Courbet and director of the School of Fine Arts. He was also an associate of the National Society of Fine Arts and the Society of Independent Artists. He is buried in Abbeville.
