Silver & Wooden Double Stamp Box Birmingham 1905

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

A beautiful example of an Edwardian, silver mounted, double stamp box. The box lid, made from silver, has two stamps encased and visible: one green halfpenny stamp and the other a red one penny stamp, each covered with a small glass panel. Hallmarks and maker''s marks are visible to the top of the lid: Birmingham 1905 by Barnsley & Co. The body of the box is wooden and covered in a leatherette material. When opened two separate compartments for stamps are revealed. The underside of the box has some very faint marks (possibly placed on the base by the Edwardian retailer).

Condition: This stamp box is in great antique condition. The hinged lid opens and closes nicely and the condition of both the silver and the leatherette coated wood is very good.
