Georgian Longcase Clock by Joseph Atkinson of Chesterfield

18th century
Description

A well proportioned Georgian oak longcase clock of small 'cottage' proportions. A golden oak case with the original stepped pediment to the hood. Gilded wooden capitals to the side columns. A decorative arched trunk door. A brass and silvered dial with silvered chapter ring. A date aperture and seconds dial with nicely chased detailing to the dial centre edging. This is distinctive to the maker and seen on other examples of his work. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

The dial is signed to the chapter ring 'Joseph Atkinson' who worked in Chesterfield in the 18th century. There are some references to the maker in Gateshead but this appears to not be connected. The clock dates to circa 1775. Height 6ft 6 " / 198 cms

From Kembery Antique Clocks you can expect a genuine longcase Grandfather clock which has been serviced and sold with 12 months guarantee. We personally deliver and set the clock up to your home in the UK, Worldwide professional packing available.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
