C19th Bronze Grand Tour Bust of Ajax

Description

C19th bronze Grand Tour bust of Ajax; depicting the Greek hero looking dexter, bearded and with flowing hair, his helmet cast with centaurs fighting soldiers, and crouching panthers below, the peak with a pair of eagles. His chest with a sash and a toga tied at his left shoulder. Raised on a gilt bronze socle standing on a 'St Anne' marble pedestal. With ogee mouldings and vertical flutes terminating on a black marble plinth. Well cast and chased with an excellent patination.

French circa 1860
