The sculptors mark is impressed to the rocky base. He is a well listed French sculptor, specialising in animal subjects, see the Artprice database for other works.
Beautifully modelled in bronze patinated metal, the Lioness is superb and very well sculpted, muscular and full of sinuous life and aggressive movement. She stands on a rocky outcrop that also contains the clock movement. The base is a beautiful green variegated specimen marble. The urns are classical in style and stand on the same green variegated marble as the clock.
The dial is a lovely off-white enamel on copper, decorated with a delicate floral swag.
The French movement is of high quality and has the makers mark on the movement backplate. It runs for 8 days and strikes half hourly on a bell and is complete with a new pendulum and bell. It has been fully overhauled by our clock maker and is in excellent working order. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition is very good, the lioness has some slight wear to the patination on the high spots and the rock has some slight discolouration in places. One urn has some denting to the front and the rear - see the pictures below. The marble bases are in excellent condition with a good finish. Dial is also in very good condition, there is a small chip to the edge between the 5 and 6 o'clock positions and some faint hair lines. A stunning clock set to add to your collection!
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
