~ French - Circa 1880 ~
~~ Excellent condition ~~
A beautiful Rococo clock set by the famous maker Japy Freres. It is stunning in its original fine gilding which is bright and clean.
Candelabra have branches of stylised acanthus leafs with a floral finial and standing on round bases. The front, rear and sides of the the clock have velvet lined fretted panels and the rear door is glazed with frosted glass.

The design is beautifully bold and heavily moulded in gilded brass, well chased and finished. It is modelled in the round and so would display very well on a table.
Dial is a beautiful enamel on copper with the hours in Roman numerals, and an Arabic minute ring, it is faintly signed for the retailer. It is complete with its original delicately fretted brass hands.

The French movement is by Japy Freres and is of this makers usual high quality, their mark is on the movement backplate along with that of the retailer's mark. It features superior pin-pallet escapement and rack striking. It is in clean and fully working condition and is complete with a replacement pendulum. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell, the video clip below shows the clock running and striking.

The finish of the set is excellent - bright and clean and no losses. There are a few very minor areas of wear or discoloration. The dial is in excellent condition with no chips or scratches. Frosted back door has some marks to the frosting. We have replaced the red velvet with new. The set displays very well as you can see below!

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
