A Wonderful Pair of 19th Century Boulle Pier Cabinets.

Description

A wonderful pair of 19th Century boulle pier cabinets. Each with a rectangular polished black marble top with rounded corners, above a fine red tortoise shell and boulle frieze. The conforming left and right hand opening doors again with fine engraved boulle detail. The cabinets having internal plate glass adjustable shelves and mirrored backs. The rounded corners having brass inlaid strips and applied ormolu mounts, the whole supported on ormolu mounted and brass inlaid bases with turned feet. Probably made by the English cabinet maker Town and Emanuel who specialised in fine quality boulle furniture. English in the French style of Andre Charles Boulle circa 1860

Dimension: 29" wide x 45" high x 18" deep

Condition: This pair of cabinets are in excellent condition

André-Charles Boulle (11 November 1642 – 28 February 1732) was the French cabinet maker who is generally considered to be the preeminent artist in the field of marquetry, even "the most remarkable of all French cabinetmakers." His fame in marquetry led to his name being given to the fashion he perfected of inlaying brass and tortoiseshell, known as Boulle
