Camden Antiques has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
Most chests from this period are generally in plain oak so this addition of burr walnut denotes the superior nature of this particular chest. There is a series of two short over 3 long, graduated drawers. All fitted with brass handles and some with locks (some locks absent). The drawer fronts are decorated with geometric moldings , redolent of the period and surrounded by bobbin cock beading. We have had this chest cleaned and waxed in our workshops , it has a lovely warm colour and patina. It is packed full of character; it does show signs of age including cracks to the side panels but nothing that you would not expect for a chest of this age.
