A Superb Quality Burr Walnut Victorian Period "Pop Up" Davenport by Maple & Co of London

Description

A superb quality burr walnut Victorian Period "pop up" davenport by Maple & Co of London. Having an unusual "pop up" section with pierced a fretwork gallery, opening to reveal a well fitted stationery compartment, above the piano front which opens to reveal a further well fitted stationery compartment with a leather lined adjustable writing surface, pen drawer and boxwood drawers, one of which houses the secret button for the pop up mechanism. The right hand side having four mahogany lined drawers with turned walnut drawer pulls, complete with working lock and key. The left hand side having four dummy drawers. The front having elaborately carved and pierced spandrels and a beautifully figured burr walnut panel. The reverse also veneered in the finest burr walnut so that this desk can be used free standing. Raised on a shaped plinth with concealed brass castors. Stamped Maple & Co, London one of the best 19th Century cabinet makers. English circa 1880
