A Superb Set of 4 Ornithological Engravings by Buffon

Description

A very unusual set of 18th Century copper plate engravings by Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon. This set of engravings are a studies of beaks and reflect Buffon's interest in natural history. Superbly drawn, each one is printed onto handmade Whatman paper and hand coloured in the subtle palette of the 18th Century. The set is in excellent condition. They have been expertly framed with a deep inner slip framing the image in a subtle antique gold. The high quality outer frame has been chosen for its timeless quality. A superb set of 18th Century engravings that would please the historian, ornithologist, print collector and interior designer.
