A 1920s silver pocket watch, Carl Bamberg.

Carl Bamberg was trained by Carl Zeiss in the 1860s and after this was completed, he remained with the company. In 1871, he set up his own business with capital provided by his future sister in law. He went on to supply the Imperial Navy with nautical and magnetic devices. Carl Bamberg died in 1892, aged just 44, and the company was run by various family members.

This particular watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover upon which is engraved a personal inscription dated 1922 (the inscription appears to be from an Eastern European country).

The watch itself measures 56mm diameter so slightly larger than most standard pocket watches. The case is silver and there are German hallmarks inside both of the case backs. The case is in good condition. To the back there is an image of a scythe and hammer over an anchor, possibly related to the Imperial Russian Navy.

The acrylic lens is in good order.

The dial is signed Carl Bamberg, Bln.Friedenau. It is in very nice condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
