Rue des Fontenelles has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
He was the student of the early animal sculptor Francois Rude and was the teacher of Jules Moignez - one of the more important animal sculptors.
Comolera made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1846 with a group of golden pheasants and he continued to exhibit until his death in 1897. His life is documented in several books including Animals in bronze by Christopher Payne (1986)
His work shows great detail an accuracy, which is shown in this bull sculpture as well as movement.
