1930s Art Deco Modernist Clock by Ato

1920 - 1940
Description

Wonderfully stylish and totally authentic 1930s Art Deco clock by ATO the French clock makers. This clock has a mixtures of materials, mainly Macassar wood and glass. Very inconic looking clock that couldn't be mistaken for any other era could it? So advanced in it's design for its time, to the untrained eye this design could have been done today, so timeless are ATO Clocks - so many puns! Although the original batteries are no longer available to power them - our horologist has adapted the mechanism to take a modern battery

Short BIO below.

ATO is short for Hatot (Leon Hatot) Léon Hatot born 22.04.1883 died 11.09.1953. He was a French clock maker and is famous for producing one of the first battery operated clocks in the 1920s. He patented the Classic form of pendulum which used a magnet and coils to impulse the pendulum. This is done by the current from the first coil switching a transistor which supplies a larger current to the second coil at the right moment. Lalique supplied some of the glass panels for some of his clocks. He used various materials to produce his clocks, marble, onyx, bakelite, wood and glass.
