In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
There is a large writing surface with three inset compartments, each covered with green tooled leather. The middle compartment lifts up and can be fixed at a slope for ease of writing, the outer two compartments are for storage. The writing surface has two inset brass handles which allow it to be pulled out.

The desk stands on two large Mahogany pedestals, both with three drawers, and set on small ceramic castors which does allow the desk to be moved. On top of the desk is a raised gallery.
The whole piece is superb quality and displays beautifully. The interior is clean and tidy and all the drawers run well. Every knob is original and the roll top runs smoothly and firmly.

It is not without some minor age-related damages. The roll top has some small shrinkage splits (see photo) and there are some general knocks and small scuffs around the base of the desk as well as some light scratches on the rear panels which cannot be seen when placed against a wall. The original rich red Mahogany finish has faded in places where some areas have been more exposed to sunlight over the years but overall it isn't detrimental to the desk and we have given it a light wax and polish to preserve the natural aged patina.

The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions please ask.
