A sublime mahogany partners library table in the manner of Gillows with drawers to both sides, four in total, beautiful brass knobs, Braman locks and two keys, the locks working. The drawers are stamped B. Taylor & Sons, Dover Street, Boro. Brass casters with an effortless movement and all draws run very smoothly to a light touch. Generous 63.5cm floor to under rail, allowing generous knee access. Perhaps the nicest we have seen. Exceptional condition, wonderful patina and sumptuous colour. Bramah were at 14 Piccadilly until 1820 when Piccadilly was renumbered and 14 became 124 Piccadilly. Parishes were responsible for numbering their streets in London. Piccadilly was in two parishes, St James at the east end and St Georges at the west end so in the Post Office directory before 1820 the Bramah address was 14 Piccadilly West End and someone else was at 14 East End, which must have led to some confusion!
*Works well with our American walnut high back chair #452112 and item #452112 the rather delicious escretoire tall boy #452067 to create a sublime Gentleman's library look.
