A fabulous Japanese Meiji period bronze study of Fukurokuju, one of the Japanese seven lucky gods and the only one credited with the ability to revive the dead he represents wealth, happiness & longevity. Shown here typically with his hands hidden carrying his staff with sacred book tied to the top which is said to contain the lifespan of every human on earth. This elegant, well-proportioned bronze is beautifully detailed in the face and is signed in a cartouche on the side c.1890.
