Half length, wearing a cream dress with blue sash and hairband.
oil on canvas,Late 18th early 19th century, oval, housed in a gilt frame. The size overall being 93 cm x 8 2cm whilst the painting is 72 x 60 cm.

The Duke of Cleveland''s 1st wife, Lady Catherine Powlett, bore him eight children but died in 1807 aged 41.
The Duke then married Elizabeth Russell, daughter of Robert Russell of Newton in Yorkshire,
in July 1813 but there was no issue from this union.
A portrait of the Duchess from the circle of John Hoppner can be seen at Raby Castle, Co. Durham.
In overall very good condition, lined,minor restoration. The period gilt frame is in good condition
having aged over the centuries.

He was active in Venice, Rome, London, Paris, Lisbon, and Naples and is known for portraits and historical allegories. He died in Rome.
