Very fine 8day, striking and repeating mahogany bracket clock on original verge, by George Suggate of Halesworth, c.1780.
Probably by George senior. Both father and son were highly respected and very wealthy, having farmland as well as a clock making business and are recorded in " Suffolk Clocks & Clock making ".
This bell top clock is made from well figured mahogany embellished with parquetry and has sublime patination. Pineapple finials and particularly fine, scrolling brass side frets, the glazed front door framed with brass and the whole standing on ogee bracket feet.
Silvered brass dial with strike silent and blued steel hands and signed George Suggate. The five pillar twin fuse, repeating movement, striking on a bell and having superb floral engraving to the backplate.
Fully overhauled by our F.B.H.I. clock maker and guaranteed for two years.
