A Georgian Flame Mahogany Chest on Chest, with Inlay to the Cornice

18th century
Sold by Elmgarden
Description

A Georgian Flame Mahogany Chest on Chest, with Inlay to the Cornice

This superb piece of furniture dates from around 1800, it is was a greatly favoured piece in its day because of the great amount of storage it gives

The chest stands on bracket shaped feet, the base section has two long drawers and the upper section has two short over three longer graduated drawers. The top of the piece is set off with a plain regency style cornice which has a boxwood and ebony inlay decoration to the front

The chest has brass oval plate handles and elegant Ivory escutcheons

The chest was made as an alcove piece, as the sides are in pine and have never been veneered, these have shrunk somewhat over the last 200 years but it does not affect the beauty of the piece from the front view

A superb piece of Country House Chic and it is beautifully proportioned and will look just as well in a country cottage

The chest stands 67” high it is 40” wide and 20” deep

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
