A beautiful Japanese Meiji period black cinnabar lacquer inro with four compartments, beautifully carved on both sides depicting what appears to be a scholar inviting a man across abridge to his home, the other side depicts the man sat down reading to his new acquaintance. The top and bottom of this charming inro are carved with floral motifs and it is held together with a brown sash cord complete with glass ojime, this inro is in excellent condition.
