Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1880s.

When putting these together, I have attached the pin to the scale .. see the photographs to see how this pin just slots in the top and secures the scales. The balance is made of polished steel and everything else in polished brass; the steel balance is marked Class B and the two brass pans both signed by the well renowned scale manufacturer, W & T Avery of Birmingham / Late Beach.

The set comes complete with some polished brass apothecary weights as seen in the photographs and the smaller weights together with the two card guides.. The two brass pans when resting sit just above the top of the Mahogany base and when needed the lever in the centre is pushed down to allow the scales to do their job. .

Dating to the Victorian era, a wonderful showy piece as a medical related gift, it would be perfect on a desk. Excellent condition and a good impressive size, the base measures 14" x 7 1/2"x 3 3/4" tall. When fully constructed, the scale stands 18 1/2" tall. All the metal elements have been professionally polished to gleam.
