Burr Walnut Dressing Table by Hille of London

1900 - 1920
Description

A superb burr walnut dressing table in the Queen Anne style. Of excellent construction by the renowned firm "Hille of London". It is made in solid walnut with stunning burr walnut veneers onto a mahogany carcas. The tryptich dressing mirror is fully adjustable with the two end mirrors swinging in and out and the central mirror that can be tilted up and down. It is fitted with its original beveled glass plates; it can be removed from the table if desired. The top of the mirror is surmounted by a crisply carved crest.

The table itself has a lovely serpentine shape to the front and an elegant curved back. It is finished all round so could be free standing within a room if desired. There is an arrangement of one long central drawer (embellished with a carved crest) flanked by two shorter end drawers each fitted with their original brass handles. The top surface of the table is fitted with an inset glass top. The whole table stands on strong and elegant cabriole legs with decorative carvings to the knees and feet.

We have had this lovely table sympathetically cleaned and waxed in our workshops. It now has a wonderful colour and patina. It is offered for sale in overall excellent condition, ready to go straight into the home.

Dimensions:

Width 131cms

Depth 62cms

Overall height 154cms

Table height 79cms

The Hille furniture company was started in the East End of London in 1906 by Salamon Hille, a Russian emigrant, to renovate and reproduce eighteenth century furniture. The focus of the business was very much quality rather than large volumes, employing skilled craftsmen and gaining customers such as Hamptons, a well known furniture store, amongst others. By the 1930’s the company had established an international reputation supplying products all over the world. Salamon's daughter, Ray, subsequently joined and worked with the company to produce furniture to original designs. In 1932, Salamon retired and Ray took over the reigns of the business with Hille becoming a Limited company that year under her leadership.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
