This is an excellent example of a solid sterling silver cigar or cigarette box.
Fully hallmarked on the side for Birmingham 1922, with the maker''s mark for Mappin & Webb Ltd, there are also partial hallmarks on the insides of both lids.
The box opens up in a picnic basket style and is fully lined with cedar wood. The hinges are good and the central handle is firmly attached. The box is inscribed with the letters F.B in one corner. There are a few scratches and bruises on the silver but nothing that detracts from the overall quality of this highly tactile piece from a famous firm of silversmiths.
