Large Burr Walnut Marble Top Secretaire Chest of Drawers C.1860.

Description

Impressive mid 19th.c. walnut commode chest of drawers with unusual secretaire top drawer c.1860. Original beautifully figured grey marble top with canted corners and a shaped edge. Over five drawers with beautifully figured burr walnut veneers arranged in a symmetrical pattern across the front. The top drawer folds open to reveal a secretaire desk with leather writing surface and fitted satin birch interior of small drawers around a shaped pigeon hole. With raised mouldings, canted front corners to the cabinet match the shape of the marble and sides also veneered in walnut. The moulded plinth contains the fifth drawer, raised on shaped bun feet. With a scratch running front to back across the marble, otherwise excellent condition, cleaned and polished in our workshops. Keys supplied, though please note the lock to the secretaire drawer is no longer working.
