Unusual Silver Plated English Biscuit Box - Registered 8th May 1882

Description

A most unusual Victorian English biscuit box or barrel with an Aesthetic movement engraved design decorating the cylindrical box. The handle lifts which in turn raises the lid and the handle can then be pushed back taking the lid along with it, allowing access to the treats within.

The underside has a full mark for the silversmith's, Phillip Ashberry and Sons of Sheffield. This example is lucky enough to have an English design registration diamond shaped lozenge which allows us to date it accurately, being registered on May 8th, 1882.

A special and most unusual piece in excellent condition. 7 1/2" x 6" x 11" tall.
