An Antique New Era Pocket Watch and Chain

1900 - 1920
Description

An antique New Era pocket watch.

New Era was a brand name used by New York Standard Watch Company. The company traded from 1885 to 1929 and this particular watch would date back to around 1910.

The watch has a signed stem-winding movement which is working nicely. There is a serial number on the movement but unfortunately there is no comprehensive database of serial numbers for the New York Standard Watch Company.

The watch itself is a chunky piece at just under 60cm diameter and about 1.5cm thick. The case is stamped silverode which is an alloy named by the Philadelphia Watch Case Company, different companies had different names for the alloy, such as silveroid and silverine, all basically a more economical silver substitute. Both the front and back covers are a screw-on fitting which is a nice sign of quality. The case is in lovely condition, as is the watch glass.

The signed white enamel has a hairline running from the centre to number 9 but it is fairly faint. Sturdy blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch comes with a single nickel chain which measures 29cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
